What is Biodynamics?
Rancho Almasomos is striving to be Arizona’s first Demeter Certified biodynamic farm. Biodynamics treats the farm as if it's a living organism. Through these holistic regenerative farming practices, we are strengthening soil health, growing nutrient-dense food without the harsh chemical and GMO inputs of commercial farming, and restoring the planet's natural defenses against climate change by sequestering carbon instead of releasing it.

Punkin' - The Donkey
DONKEY | 7 YEARS
The unofficial ranch mascot, Punkin, is a spunky and affectionate donkey, who loves attention and often greets our visitors with a bray to say welcome. He was a thank you gift from the ranch crew to the founder, Kat – who has always wanted a donkey.

Pie - The Mini-horse
MINIATURE PAINT HORSE | 6 YEARS
Pie may look like a sweet little pony, but there's a lot of character packed into that miniature body. She’s a little fuzzy firecracker. Gifted by a friend of the farm to keep Punkin’ company, she was the second animal to join the ranch family.

Egg Brigade - The Chickens
AMERAUCANA/SPECKLED SUSSEX | 1 Year
This lively bunch of ranch hens are pulling double duty on the Ranch. They act as little excavators and spreaders distributing the nutrients back into the soil, and they lay some extremely tasty eggs, giving nutrients to us as well.

Aggie - The Brown Goat
NUBIAN | 1 YEAR
Aggie is the brown goat who, like her sisters, was born on a local Cornville farm. She is the Curious George of the bunch and a professional escape artist, who is always getting into mischief – like sneaking into Punkin’ and Pies pen to hang out.

Winnie - The Black Goat
NUBIAN | 1 YEAR
The black goat is Winnie. She is the second sister of our Nubian dairy goat triplets and needs to be the center of attention at all times. Queen of the pen, she is the bravest of her sisters – especially if there is food involved.

Gertie - The White Goat
NUBIAN | 1 YEAR
Rounding out our Nubian dairy goat triplets is the spotted white goat Gertie. Very shy compared to his sisters – at least until she gets to know you, and then she is all play. Her favorite thing to do is climb the climbing tower.

Patches - The Cow
ANGUS/HOLSTEIN | 8 YEARS
Hailing from northern Arizona, Patches is the hand raised gentle giant of the ranch. She loves to be scratched under her chin and can be found most days chilling out somewhere in the shade with her three goat sisters.

At already a year old, Patches' calf is already almost full grown. She is a wonderful addition to the Rancho Almasomos family as she shares the barn with her new found farm family.

Chocolate Lab Mix | 4 YEAR
Koko the ranch dog works hard watching over the other animals in case of danger from the ranging coyotes, bobcats and other predators who would love to make one of our chickens or goats their next meal.

At Rancho Almasomos, connecting people to the biodynamic method of building sustainable, nutrient-rich soil, and the delicious food that grows out of it, is a huge part of our mission.The biodynamic living organism we are creating here at the ranch goes beyond the boundaries of the property.
We work with local schools to provide educational field trip opportunities for kids of all ages.
We deliver our surplus nutrient-rich produce to local food banks.
We provide local chefs and restaurants with seasonal produce.
We have a great volunteer program for folks looking to get their hands dirty.
We host community, public and private events.
We provide space for educational workshops ranging from yoga to how to can peaches.
